Hastings/Napier Rural

No outdoor burning is permitted in the Napier or Hastings air sheds each winter from from 1 May to 31 August.
Exceptions are:
- Burning for disease control
- Burning orchard or vineyard redevelopment material
- Fires for food cooking purposes i.e. barbeques or hangis

Fire permits are required for all fires on Public Conservation Land other than for an approved campground fire or a fire lit for cooking or warmth.  Apply for a Fire Permit (external link)

Fire Permits are required for all Bay Forest Zones. Please select Bay Forest zone if you require a fire permit in this area.

Burning at night - Fires burning at night can be mistaken for uncontrolled fires. Please avoid burning at night or before burning please contact Fire and Emergency New Zealand. Email hawkesbay@fireandemergency.nz

General burning rules - Fires must:

•be at least 5 metres clear of any flammable material, vegetation, fence or building.

•not be lit in windy conditions or when strong winds are forecast.

•not be left unattended.

•be controlled and extinguishing equipment such as a garden hose must be readily available.

•be completely extinguished with water.
